This year the kids made beautiful Mother’s Day gift boxes which were filled with chocolates donated by Sandra.
Clean-up day @ Mooi Uitsig in Betty's Bay
In the last school holidays the principal of Pikkewyntjies Pre-School, Zaan Cilliers organised a clean-up of the village in which it stands, Mooi Uitsig in Betty’s Bay. The school kids and their teachers and many of the ex-Pikkewyntjies got stuck in and filled more than 20 black bags with nameless rubbish. The village looked wonderful - for a short time before the trees were once more festooned with torn plastic bags and sweet wrappers and broken glass and chip packets were lying wherever the wind had carried them.
It doesn’t help to teach the children not to litter if there is nowhere for them to dispose of it except on the ground so the school contacted Mr Denovan van Rhodie, Senior Operational Manager Kleinmond to ask if the municipality could help us begin to solve the problem by suspending drums on poles at each street corner.
He came to the village for an on-site inspection and to talk to our principal and explained as we anticipated that budget constraints might make it difficult to do anything right away. Nevertheless, there are now, not drums but neat wheelie bins attached to poles on the street corners on each of the seven streets in Mooi Uitsig.
The school would like to thank Mr van Rhodie publicly for his outstanding support and for this prompt and efficient action within such a short time of our plea for assistance in the fight against pollution. What the village has is far superior to anything we imagined and far more long-lasting.
