Collins Ochumbe, paramedic, game ranger and passionate conservationist, will be celebrating his 39th birthday by planting 39 indigenous trees close to the border of the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
Why are trees and vegetation so important? They are the reason we breathe.
They play a critical role in collecting and storing rainfall. Trees with higher elevations can capture water from fog and clouds by drawing moisture out of the atmosphere.
In addition to the carbon offset, planting trees can improve soil quality and can increase water retention of the soil. Trees also provide shelter and food for wildlife, birds and even humans.
Isn't nature just sublime?
One of vikela.earth’s job is to raise awareness about the challenges facing the earth’s fauna and flora. We aim to achieve this by empowering individuals, creating job opportunities, and striving for sustainable solutions.
Our activities include bringing together minds, skills, and hearts to protect our planet. Through sharing ideas, developing fora, discussion groups, research initiatives and providing business support we want to make the difference.
On the 13th of August vikela.earth ambassador, Collins Ochumbe, will be mobilising a group of youth in his community to assist him in planting his 39 ‘birthday’ trees.
We ask you to donate generously to this worthy cause to enable Collins to purchase the seedlings, pay for transport to the venue and to provide food and water for the volunteers on the day. One tree at a time we will go forwards!
