Successful Charcoal Workshop
Last week, Art4Heart hosted an incredibly successful charcoal workshop that brought together artists of various skill levels.
Belinda Ann Burchell is a renowned South African artist, illustrator, and surface designer with a diverse background in teaching art and design.
Throughout her career, Belinda has explored various artistic avenues, including set design, painting, and mural painting.

Belinda's journey began with her enrollment at The Ruth Prowse School of Art, where she obtained diplomas in Fine Art (1979-82) and Textile Design (1988-90). After completing her fine art studies, Belinda actively participated in numerous group shows, showcasing her artistic talent and establishing herself in the art community.
Belinda’s involvement in the Dal Josaphat Arts Foundation was crucial in establishing and organising group exhibitions for major South African artists.
In 1982 Belinda's artistic prowess was acknowledged when she won first prize at The New Signatures Exhibition at The Association of Arts in Bellville. She also received three prestigious Cape Times awards for her exceptional set design contributions to productions such as The Wizard of Oz, Filumina, and A Cinderella Pantomime, by Anchor Players Productions.
Over the years, her talent extended beyond visual arts, as she also received recognition in acting and directing. This included The Peggy Ruske Trophy for Best Supporting Actress in Mickey Kannis Caught My Eye at the Masque’s 37th One Act Play Festival.
From 1991 to 2000, Belinda worked as a designer in the textile industry, where she honed her skills in creating captivating designs for various applications.
She dedicated herself to teaching art and design in schools, catering to students from Grade 1 to Grade 12. Her extensive experience in education allowed her to inspire and nurture young artistic minds for over two decades.
Belinda's experience in both fine art and design allowed her to explore the unique interplay between the two disciplines. She seamlessly merged her knowledge, resulting in her current focus on creating captivating illustrations.
After retiring from teaching, Belinda held a successful solo exhibition in March 2021, showcasing her latest artistic endeavours. She continues to participate in group shows and organise solo pop-up exhibitions to share her creative vision.

Art4Heart will host a mini-solo exhibition showcasing Belinda’s work from the 5th to the 10th of June, 2023.
