  1. BEEFED UP SECURITY - Apart from ensuring your alarm is set, you can also install a lock strike-plate on your door.
  2. PRETEND YOU’RE STILL HERE - Ensure your house looks lived in, e.g. get a time switch for the lights and get someone to ow the lawn.
  3. SHUT THOSE WINDOWS - Ensure all windows are closed.
  4. DRIVE SOLICITORS AWAY - Don’t invite hawkers or any strangers in your house; they just want to check out what you have.
  5. TECH UP - Ensure your WiFi is secured. If you do have a smartphone, you can use it to control your security system from remote.
  6. HIDE YOUR VALUABLES - If you have a safe, use it to store your valuables, e.g. laptops, jewellery, money and even spare car keys.
  7. RECORD YOUR VALUABLES - Write down all serial numbers of your technological devices and put somewhere safe.
  8. PACK IN SECRET - Pretend you’re on a secret mission and do all packing out of sight.
  9. KEEP EMPTY BOXES OFF CURB - Rather keep empty boxes inhouse and dispose of them when you return from holiday.
  10. DON’T ADVERTISE YOUR HOLIDAY PLANS - Don’t tell it all on social media platforms; wait until you come back from holiday to post some of the happy pics, to show where you’ve been.
