This long outstanding matter needs new energy to address it positively.

Parking in the Hermanus Central Business District (CBD) remains a long-standing problem. However, this problem is now exacerbated by staff of businesses within the CBD making use of parking bays normally reserved for shoppers who would park for short times while shopping. In these incidences, the short-term parking bay is occupied by the vehicles of staff members for the whole day.
To try and address the problem, the Municipality herewith requests all businesses in the CBD to encourage staff coming to work with their own vehicles, to make use of the following long-term (free) parking bays to park during business hours:
• Gearing’s Point
• Marine Drive
• On the grounds of the NG Church
• Hoy's Koppie (opposite Checkers)
This co-operation will ensure vehicle turnover and one hour (60 minutes) free parking in the Hermanus CBD for shopping and business purposes.
Director Solomzi Madikane, the Overstrand Municipality's Director of Social and Economic Development and Tourism, said the Municipality is unable to collect a tariff for parking or introduce the payment system in the CBD because of Covid restrictions and protocols as it entails the exchange of cash between the user and the parking attendants.
It is therefore up to businesses to ensure that their staff park at the long-term parking areas outside the Hermanus CBD in order to have it available for their customers and that shopper restrict their parking time on parking facilities in the CBD to 60 minutes or less.
Parking attendants will soon be appointed/deployed during office hours to provide motorists with information of available parking should they need to park for more than one hour. The temporary parking attendants will have Identity Documents and wear a bib. No parking tariff will be collected, and tipping is optional.
In the background, though, a top performer - Overstrand Municipality - labours relentlessly to ensure this treasure trove’s clockwork ticks over smoothly. Providing municipal services to an area exceeding 1708 km2 with a population well in excess of the estimated 74500 souls is no easy feat, as th...
