I love making compost so much. There's something about the gathering and layering of materials, the physical effort involved and the science project vibe that just speaks to me. But mostly I love it because it's just such a beneficial thing to do, not just for the garden but for the planet as a whole. That's because every year, we lose approximately 24 billion tonnes of topsoil due to erosion caused by bad farming practices. 24 billion tonnes! So by making compost - which in essence is creating soil - a single little human like me can do something tangible to mitigate this huge problem which affects our ecosystems in so many ways. And that makes me feel like a superwoman!
