Christmas Cheer for the Needy

As we approach the end of 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic is still with us, but we will push through this festive season as we did in 2020. With Christmas only a few weeks away we will be carrying out our Happy Hampers campaign, again with some changes. So while you are planning your holidays and Christmas deliciousness, Stanford Rotary is appealing to you to consider sponsoring a Happy Hamper (or more) to lift the spirits of the desperately poor at Christmas time.

Due to the much higher number of people in need this year, we will again be issuing the selected recipients with vouchers rather than the basic food parcels provided in previous years. The value of a voucher will be R200 and will be issued with restrictions that only food items can be purchased. Our local Savemor have excellent security protocols in place to ensure these restrictions are adhered to.

Recipients are members of Stanford’s desperately underprivileged community who would normally make use of the various Soup Kitchens our Club supports. They are selected by various church organisations and community leaders. The soup kitchen volunteers take a break over Christmas and New Year, which means no cooked meals will be available to the desperately and genuinely poor of Stanford. The requirement this year is close to 420.

    Use ‘Hamper’ as your reference and also leave your name.

    As we are a registered PBO we are able to issue tax certificates.

 • Cash can be left at the Tourism office - in an envelope clearly marked for Rotary

From where it will be collected and put into the kitty. Please remember to leave your name and email address so we can acknowledge your donation.

Recipients will be invited to collect their vouchers on a given day, after which they can redeem the vouchers any time until the end of January 2022. We will ensure that vouchers are distributed to those families who are in genuine need in Stanford.

Your kindness and support will be greatly appreciated, and go a long way in helping a poor family enjoy their Christmas, however humble it may be.
